Hands On Training Services
Live Fire Training – Acquired or Fixed Buildings
Live fire training in either acquired structures or fixed burn facility as per NFPA 1403 standards. Topics include; proper hose management, fire stream application, search and fire control are covered.
Flashover Training
Training with live fire in a flashover simulator showing the development of fire and the characteristics of behavior of fire.
Incident Command Training
Training individuals on the proper procedure of Incident Command with scenarios and classroom instruction.
Red Cross First Responder & Emergency Medical Responder, AED
Training and certifying individuals to become First Responders or Emergency Medical responders under the Canadian Red Cross.
Firefighter Survival
This is a comprehensive program dealing with the knowledge and skill needed to effect rescue as a member of a Rapid Intervention Team. The course also demonstrates ‘last-ditch’ self-rescue techniques (some of which are not seen in the books). These emergency procedures, though involving some risk themselves, are designed to be useable when the only other alternative is to die. Emphasis will be placed on search techniques, communications, accountability, and self-rescue procedures. This course is best suited to students who, in addition to the prerequisite training, have at least a ‘ground-floor’ level of on-the-street practical firefighting experience.
R.I.T. Training
Training firefighters to rescue firefighters, who are lost, trapped or injured. Training will cover SCBA changeovers, face piece changeover, enlarged openings, sub level rescues, Denver drill, Pittsburgh drill, removing firefighters up and down stairs and scenarios. Acquired structures are used to conduct training.
Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations:
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS LEVEL 472
This course will provide instruction in the basic skills of identifying hazardous materials problems in a community, recognize hazardous materials presence, identify hazardous materials and the associated hazard characteristics.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AWARENESS REFRESHER LEVEL 472
This course will provide the student with a basic review of skills needed to identify hazardous materials problems, recognize the presence of hazardous materials, and identify hazardous materials and their associated dangers. This course will meet the requirements for annual review under NFPA 472.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS OPERATIONS LEVEL 472
This course is designed to prepare the student to respond to hazardous materials incidents at the Operational Level in accordance to NFPA 472.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS OPERATIONS LEVEL REFRESHER 472
This course will provide the student with a review of the skills necessary to operate at the “Operations Level” at a hazardous materials incident. This course will meet the requirements for annual refresher training per NFPA 472.
Pump Operations
This course provides the fire fighter with an introduction to basic pump construction and theory as well as operating techniques in this course. Emphasis is placed on getting water to the pump, getting water from the pump for hose streams, and prevention of common mistakes in pump operations. Topics covered include: friction loss, relay pumping, master and elevated master streams.
Recruit Training
In house recruit training for any size volunteer department. Training can be conducted at station location with a schedule convenient for all. Training covered will include Firefighter 1 and 2.
Chainsaw Safety Training
Safe and effective means of operating a chainsaw. Topics include maintenance, sharpening and cutting.
SCBA training
This course is designed to familiarize the student with basic respiratory protection. Topics include: the human respiratory system, effects of toxic atmospheres, and self-contained breathing apparatus. Live drills are part of this course.
Ventilation
This course will provide the student with the knowledge and skills to safely and efficiently perform ventilation in various situations. Topics include: building construction, air movement, tools and their use, natural and forced ventilation, and negative and positive pressure ventilation.
Truck Company Operations 1
This course will introduce the student to the basic duties of a truck company including hand and power tool operation, search and rescue, and ventilation. Truck company support to the engine company is also covered.
Truck Company Operations 2
This course is designed for the fire fighter to apply and refine his/her knowledge of truck company operations. Topics include: vehicle placement, forcible entry, search and rescue, water supply, aerial operation, building construction, fire travel, and ventilation.
Engine Company Operations
This course provides instruction in the duties and responsibilities of an engine company. Topics include: positioning of apparatus, use of attack and back-up lines, search and rescue, and water supply.
Aerial Operations
This course provides a more in depth exposure to the operating principles and procedures for aerial devices through hands-on exercises.
Emergency vehicles operations course (EVOC). This course, developed by Volunteer Firemen’s Insurance Services, provides instruction in techniques of driving emergency vehicles under all conditions. Students will learn the importance of vehicle dynamics, driver selection, condition and preparation on safe vehicle operations. The course includes practice on a driving course laid out to simulate various driving conditions. Also included is a section on service and preventive maintenance.
Defensive driving
Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator series is utilized for this training course. Participants will work through various units on the important principles of defensive driving.
